Topic: Mary Fisher - Faith & Play story

Today the FDS children participated in a Faith and Play story about Mary Fisher.  The students were interested in the story and wanted to handle the pieces and were active today.  The story should have taken about 15 minutes but took almost the full time.  The glue gun to make the  characters for the children to take home took too much time. We needed a second one to be efficient with time.  Behaviors were mostly good with some redirecting.  One child had a urine accident.

On Sunday Jan 14, first day school was taught by Laura Cummins. There were 7 kiddos listed below. We read a book called 'Shades of People' provided in the house (thanks!). We talked about Martin Luther King, Jr while we colored printed pages of him giving a speech. While we colored, we emphasized his teachings such as 'loving our enemies' (tough idea for the kids!), being courageous to stand up and speak for what you believe is 'right' and why we celebrate him. We used a couple of books from the Austin library to show pictures of him and emphasize these teachings as well. This included his role in changing the laws around racism and segregation and celebrating individuals who helped make our world a better place!

attendance: Opal, Delia, Jones, Rowen, Elios, Clyde, and little two year old Tehari. He is so well-behaved for 2!!
