Peaceful Heroes

There's a Hero in You - 2012-13

Our theme for the 2012-13 school year is 'There's a Hero in You' We'll look at the qualities that define a hero and learn about many different people who each in their own unique way, became heros whether recognized by society at large or within their own communities.

Individual biographies

Wangari's Trees of Peace is the true story of Wangari Maathai of Kenya who started the Green Belt Movement in 1977 which earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.

Peacful Heroes presents 14 short biographies of people from different times and places and how they worked to improve their world.

Heroes from the Hebrew Scriptures

Our Quaker curriculum on Teaching the Old Testament to Quaker Children contains the stories of many heroes of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Faith & Play

Two of the original stories in Faith and Play are about people. You may wish to use one or both of these. These are told in the same manner as the Godly Play stories we have seen. Learn more about Godly Play from our Teacher Training Workshop materials here.

The new 2012 edition of Faith & Play has slightly updated some of the stories and has added several on the testimonies which are appropriate to the topic of heroes. Letting your life speak by living the testimonies embodies many of the qualities of heroes.
