Curriculum Resources from Philadelphia Yearly Meeting

Growing in the Light has been used in the past. The first two Chapters are on Worship.

From the Center Out is about discernment and has three parts: Centering and listening for the Call; Hearing the Call and deciding what to do; and Responding to the Call and Leading. The curriculum is written for grades k-8.

God Is... A structured exploration of the concept of God using a variety of methods; more concrete for the youngest children and more abstract for adults. Begins with background of what Quakers believe about God. Second chapter facilitates the sharing of each individual's experience of God. Complete with two lesson plans. For K - Adult. Good for Intergenerational.

The Friendly Seed – Teaching Quaker Faith & Practice to Children addresses both corporate worship and individual devotion. The section on Corporate Worship is the second of three sections in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 is on Personal Devotion. Age Range: 6 - 13 years. Suggestions are given to adjust a lesson for lower or higher grades.

Teaching the Queries to Quaker Children is based on Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice. The first Query is on Worship. Targeted for 10-14 year olds, but may be useful for other ages.

Foundations for Children in Quaker Worship is a short essay by Kathleen Karhnak, Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. It was published in the PYM biannual Religious Education Newsletter, Making Space, in December 2006.

Helping Children Learn to Worship is a pamphlet published by New Garden Friends Meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina. New Garden is a semi-programmed meeting with 30 minutes of hymns and a pastoral message followed by 30 minutes of silent (open) worship.
